Justin Johan Basson is a South African rugby union player who currently plays for the Sharks in the United Rugby Championship. Born on 10 February 1994 in Cape Town, South Africa, Basson primarily operates as a lock.
Basson began his rugby career in Pretoria before moving to Bloemfontein to join the Free State Cheetahs. He started his season playing for the UFS Shimlas Young Guns and played a significant role in helping them win the 2014 Varsity Cup Young Guns competition, scoring a try in the final.
In the Provincial Championship, Basson started nine games for the Free State U21 team. He was also included in a Free State XV that participated in the 2015 Vodacom Cup. Basson made his first-class debut in 2016, featuring in a match against Boland.
In May 2018, Basson extended his contract with the Cheetahs, signing a new two-year deal. He has since joined the Sharks in the United Rugby Championship, bringing his skills and presence as a lock to the team. With his height and weight advantage, Basson adds strength and stability to the Sharks' forward pack.
