Max Jorgenson ruled out

NSW Waratahs star Max Jorgensen is set for a stint on the sidelines after a nasty ankle injury in the defeat to the Hurricanes.

Jorgensen went down early after he was pulled down from behind and hobbled off the field.

Coach Dan McKellar confirmed Jorgensen had likely suffered a syndesmosis injury, set for scans when they return to Sydney.

“Max looks like he’s done a syndesmosis injury, so we’ll need to get that scanned,” McKellar said after the game.

“It’s unfortunate, but injuries provide opportunities for others.

"We’re starting to pick up a few, which is always a challenge.”

The Waratahs and Wallabies will be sweating on the results of the scans, which could see Jorgensen out for a couple of months if it's a high grade syndesmosis injury

It was a rough blow that set the tempo for the night as the Waratahs were thumped 57-12.

Jorgensen was followed off by Lawson Creighton (HIA), with the Waratahs never recovering after a second-half penalty try/yellow card to Joey Walton.

"I thought we started well and then everything that could go wrong sort of went wrong for us," Walton said post-match.

"But we just didn't adapt well enough and we stopped winning collisions and they just rolled over the top of us.

"I think five minutes before halftime we felt we were in it and then we just sort of dropped our heads there, which we can't do. We've got to stay in it there.

"We did come out in the second half, fired a shot straight away, but we fell away.

"We've just got to adapt better and we've got to stay on task."
