Corey Evans signs with the Crusaders through to 2028

Versatile midfielder Corey Evans will join the Crusaders for the 2027 and 2028 Super Rugby Pacific seasons, bringing speed, skill and versatility to the club's backline. 

Originally from Waipapakauri in Northland, Evans has built a reputation as a natural rugby player with the ability to cover multiple positions across the backline, including midfield, first five-eighth and fullback. 

He says the opportunity to continue developing his game within the Crusaders environment was a major factor in his decision to sign. 

“The Crusaders are known for their high standards and winning culture. I feel like this is the perfect spot for me to grow as a player and play some good footy.” 

The 25-year-old represented the New Zealand Under 20s in 2021 and made his Auckland debut the same year, earning recognition as the Blues Development Player of the Year. 

Since making his Super Rugby debut in 2022, he has continued to develop and grow, known not only for his versatility but also for the resilience he has shown throughout his career. 

After overcoming three ACL injuries earlier in his career, Evans has continued to grow his game and establish himself as a player capable of making an impact wherever he's needed across the backline. 

Evans says he's excited to become part of the Crusaders whānau. 

“I’m keen to connect with some of the boys I’ve grown up playing with and against. Also meeting new faces and being able to contribute to a successful team.” 

The prospect of running out in front of Crusaders supporters at One New Zealand Stadium is another part of the move that has him excited. 

“Pretty keen to play in that new stadium,” he says.  

“From watching on TV it looks like they’ve got the whole community behind them, which is pretty cool to see. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
