Seilala Lam commits to Clermont

ASM Clermont Auvergne have secured a major signing, bringing in Samoan international hooker Seilala Lam to strengthen their squad. The 36-year-old, who has 30 caps for Samoa and played in both the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups, will join the team this weekend after being released by USAP.

Lam’s arrival fills the gap left by Folau Fainga’a and ensures Clermont head into the season opener in Lyon on Saturday, November 22nd, with an experienced, battle-hardened option at hooker. Standing 1.82 meters and weighing 103 kilograms, Lam brings a wealth of Top 14 experience, having played around 100 matches in France’s top flight.

“We’re thrilled to have found a solution in time,” said coach Christophe Urios. “We wanted a solid, experienced player who is strong in the tackle, and Seilala fits perfectly. He will be a huge asset for the rest of the season.”

Lam will join Etienne Fourcade and Barnabé Massa in the hooker rotation and will start integrating with the squad this weekend, ready to make an immediate impact in Auvergne.
