Leicester Tigers say that they are 'aware of allegations made against the club regarding historic image rights payments'.
The Premiership league leaders released a short statement saying that they are 'cooperating with Premiership Rugby, who are looking into the historic matter, and has met with representatives from Premiership Rugby to discuss the claims.'
This comes off the back of a report in The Times where sources claimed that 'off the books image rights payments were used in the past to boost player salaries outside of the salary cap.'
The League's salary cap director, Andrew Rogers, is understood to be investigating a company called Worldwide Image Management (WIM), which was closed voluntarily in February, and its links to the Gallagher Premiership club.
PRL regulations were updated last year and now state that a breach of the salary cap in excess of £200,000 could trigger a range of punishments including a 50-point deduction as well as a fine or an automatic relegation.
These regulations were updated after Saracens were found to have breached the salary cap and Leicester could face a similar punishments.
