Gonzalo Quesada, Technical Commissioner of the Italian Men's National Team, has announced the squad that will face Scotland at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday, February 1, at 2:15 PM local time (3:15 PM Italian time). This match is part of the opening round of the 2025 Guinness Six Nations. The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sport 1 and simulcast on Rai 2.
This will be the 38th meeting between the two teams, and the 19th match held in Scotland. The record stands at 28 wins for the Highlanders and 9 for the Azzurri, with Italy securing their most recent victory in March when Michele Lamaro lifted the "Cuttitta Cup," which will be contested again this Saturday to honor the memory of Massimo Cuttitta, the legendary captain of Italy and coach of the Scottish forwards.
The extended squad chosen by Quesada mirrors the one named for the 2024 Six Nations opener, with Tommaso Allan, Italy’s most capped player and all-time top scorer in the Tournament, starting at fullback alongside wings Ange Capuozzo and Monty Ioane. Ioane, who made his Italy debut against Scotland in 2022, will play at Murrayfield for the first time.
The center pairing of Brex – who scored a try and was named Guinness Player of the Match against the Scots in Rome last year – and Menoncello, named MVP of the 2024 Tournament, remains unchanged. Quesada has also kept Paolo Garbisi and Martin Page-Relo in charge of the midfield.
The back row features the same players as two years ago, with Lorenzo Cannone at number 8, captain Lamaro, and flanker Sebastian Negri. In the second row, Federico Ruzza will partner with Dino Lamb, who will make his Six Nations debut.
In the front row, Fischetti, Nicotera, and Ferrari will lead the Italian scrum.
On the bench, debutant Rizzoli is set to earn his first cap. In addition to the Roman prop from Zebre, Lucchesi, Riccioni, Niccolò Cannone, Zuliani, Vintcent, Alessandro Garbisi, and Simone Gesi will be ready to come on during the game. Gesi previously earned his only cap against Scotland at Murrayfield two years ago.
Alongside the 23-man squad, Di Bartolomeo, Zilocchi, Favretto, Varney, and Marin will travel to Scotland as part of the squad.
The match will be refereed by English official Karl Dickson.
