Fiji hooker Zuriel Togiatama joins Newcastle Red Bulls

Fiji hooker Zuriel Togiatama is joining Newcastle Red Bulls, having agreed an initial one-year deal.

The 27-year-old has been capped 14 times by his country and arrives from Super Rugby side Fijian Drua, for whom he has played 50 times.

A former Counties Manukau team-mate of Red Bulls back-rower Hoskins Sotutu at National Provincial Championship level in New Zealand, Togiatama stands at 6 feet tall and came through the famed rugby proving ground of Wesley College.

The Fijian’s arrival in Newcastle brings valuable quality and experience in the hooking department, with summer signing George Turner set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an Achilles injury towards the end of last season.

Happy to have secured Togiatama’s signature, Newcastle Red Bulls head coach Dan McFarland said: "Zuriel is a powerful front-rower who we're delighted to welcome to Newcastle Red Bulls.
