An SA Schools representative second-rower Pieterse quickly rose through the ranks at the Bulls and made his Super Rugby debut for the Bulls in their round 1 match against the Sharks in January 2020, coming on as a replacement lock.
Pieterse attended Hoerskool Garsfontein and represented the Bulls at youth level and was 21 years old when he made his Super Rugby debut.
He signed for the Bulls Super Rugby side for the 2020 Super Rugby season but departed the side in July to join the TOP14 club Castres.
