Growing up in Victoria, Cox was a late starter to rugby having served his earlier sporting years in an AFL singlet shooting Sherrins at four posts. His first game of rugby was in 2009 but since then he has taken to the game and is now regarded as an exceptional talent.
A move to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in his late teens inspired a code change, handing the Sunshine Coast Rays their most lethal weapon for the 2010 season. In 2011 Cox moved down the coast to University of Queensland where he formed a bond with other Brumbies like Ian Prior and Ruaidhri Murphy.
A tip off to Jake White mid-way through 2011 saw Cox invited to the Brumbies now famous talent identification camps at Narrabeen and from there the speed merchant was invited to spend two years in Canberra with the Brumbies.
