Dafydd James

24th Jul 1975 1.93m/90kg Left Wing

Equally adept at centre or as a winger, Dafydd James spent most of his international career on the flanks and it was there he enjoyed success as a Lion.

James – a giant of a wing at 6ft 4 – had been a Wales mainstay for four years before getting the call-up in 2001.

And he was selected to start in that famous first Test in Brisbane as both he and the Lions opened up the series in perfect fashion.

Superb play from Brian O’Driscoll and then Jason Robinson sent James over for the second try before the Lions wrapped up a 29-13 victory.

James, who played six games in total on tour and also started the final two Tests against the Wallabies, had earned 48 caps for Wales by the time he ended his international career in 2007.
