Last week, World Rugby confirmed the United States as the hosts for the 2031 Rugby World Cup and plans to prepare the national side for the competition have begun.
One of the big plans to prepare the Americans is the hiring of a new head coach with reports suggesting that Gary Gold will vacate the head coach role next year.
Gold took over as the United States head coach in 2018 and took the side through to the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, there are persistent rumours that Warren Gatland is set to take charge of America's Eagles at the end of next year.
USA are still in the battle to qualify for the World Cup in France with two-leg playoff against Chile in July set to decide their fate.
Planning ahead, USA Rugby have reportedly added Gatland to their shortlist of candidates to build towards the 2031 Rugby World Cup with a showpiece in Australia before they host the competition.
Gatland could be the man trusted to secure Rugby World Cup qualification for the 2027 World Cup and better prepare the side for their home World Cup.
The former British and Irish Lions and Wales head coach is currently working with Super Rugby Pacific side the Chiefs operating in the role of Director of Rugby.
