Talking Points: New Zealand vs Namibia
- 1301
In a game which New Zealand were expected to win by plenty, Namibia actually held their own for the first 40 minutes but sadly suffered a big All Black backlash in the second half, as they lost 71-9 in the end.
Here are three talking points from today’s high scoring encounter:
The Battle Between Anton Lienert-Brown and Sonny Bill-Williams
The battle between the two number twelves is getting exciting as they both put in stellar performances against tier 2 nations. Lienert-Brown was today’s Man of the Match and deservedly so if you look at his statistics in the match. On defence, the centre made 100% of his tackles and will count as a big plus with the knockout phase approaching.
On attack, he blew the competition away with his two tries and try assist. He also made 106 metres with the ball in hand, beat nine defenders and had two clean breaks.
Is Jordie A Future No. 10?
The youngest Barrett started his first game for his country at flyhalf today and looked very comfortable it must be said. Although the competition was not tier 1 level, the Cane star really showed what he can do with ball in hand. The 22-year-old scored 21 points and made 90 metres on his own.
His defensive stats were not too bad either as he made 80% of his tackles and even won his side the ball on one occasion.
Top Performances from Johan Tromp and Damian Stevens
These two Namibians really put it all on the line for their country today and deserve a mention. From fullback, Tromp made the most carrying metres for his team (55 m) and he also managed to dangerous breaks in the first half which could have resulted in tries.
No. 9,Damian Stevens, scored all his sides points today and even got stuck into a few rucks where he ended up winning three turnovers for the African nation.
