A post-game confusion resulted in the incorrect Springbok being awarded the Man of the Match title after Saturday’s 45-21 win against England at Ellis Park.
Afrikaans newspaper Rapport stated that the award was meant for fullback Damian Willemse following his exceptional display in the Nations Championship kickoff.
Nevertheless, inside centre Damian de Allende was inadvertently guided forward for the on-field presentation and post-match interview with SuperSport’s Hanyani Shimange.
It remains unclear where the mix-up occurred.
