Saracens' Welsh International prop Rhys Carre was shown a straight red card just five minutes into his first club game back in Wales as Saracens managed to claim a 15-22 win despite playing 75 minutes with 14 men.
Carre was red-carded for a high shot to the head of Dan Evans.
Saracens' got off to a good start with Manu Vunipola opening the scoring in the 3rd minute and Luke Price levelled things just 11 minutes later.
Three penalties from the boot of Manu Vunipola followed before Saracens were further reduced with Calum Clark going to the sin bin for 10 minutes. That was when Ospreys finally struck with Dan Evans scoring in the 33rd minute.
Price missed a penalty just before the break that could of given Ospreys the led at half time but Dan Evans completed his brace just 4 minutes after the break. Their lead didn't last long with Alex Lewington scoring in te 50th minute and Vunipola converted another penalty in the 67th minute to put the game beyond Ospreys reach.
The BT Sport commentators did not agree with the decision to send Carre off but as Sports scientist Ross Tucker pointed out, the referee followed the framework perfectly:
The commentators didn’t agree with a red card. It comes from the clear application of the High Tackle Sanction Framework by the referee: Shoulder (arm of contact shoulder behind plane of body) + Contact to head/neck (they’re treated the same) + no mitigation = Red, via pathway 2 pic.twitter.com/tWaFS9WU3r
