Review: Leinster 20-8 Treviso

Leinster hosted Treviso in the opening pro 12 game tonight. It was always going to prove difficult for the Italian side with Leinster going with a squad filled with yougsters looking to prove themselves, as well as a couple of experienced players such as Rob Kearney and Zayn Kirchner. Leinster started the game oozing of confidence as they showed they were not afraid to spread the ball wide and attack the wings. The first score of the game came from the young outhalf Joey Carberry who managed to weave between Treviso players with a try under the posts.

Things went from bad to worse for Treviso with Carberry grabbing his second try of the game just before the end of the first half. The young 10 gathered loose ball to make a surging break through the Treviso defence, with only the fullback to beat he applied an impressive step to give Leinster some breathing space going into the second half. The Leinster pack worked well around the park winning most of their own line outs and managed to overturn a couple of Treviso's. Leinster number 8 Dan Leavy displayed a strong ball carrying game with a number of vital carries for the home side.

Treviso did manage to get one try with a beautiful rolling mall coming from a line out. They pushed Leinster to their own try line and peeled from the back, sliding over for what was their only try of the game. Treviso kicker Tomasso Allan had a poor performance missing a number of what could be considered "easy kicks" and only converting a solitary kick all game. Going forward it will be a long season if Treviso don't sort out their handling erros. Leinster applied pressure late on with Leinsters sub hooker James Tracy barrelling over the line for a try. The game finished Leinster 20 Treviso 8.

Man of the match - Joey Carberry

The youngster proved he is more then capable of pulling out big performances for Leinster with an outstanding game. He marshalled the game from the begininng displaying both kicking and running skills. He scored twice in the first half for Leinster, what a prospect this guy is.
