On This Day: Scotland celebrate historic upset with sickening head clash

Eight years ago Scotland claimed a historic win over Australia in rain-soaked conditions with the onfield post match celebration proving more memorable the match itself.

Scrumhalf Greig Laidlaw put Scotland 6-0 ahead before the half-hour mark, but Mike Harris replied with a penalty of his own before half-time. After the break, Harris kicked Australia level but he missed a long-distance penalty that would have won the match for the hosts.

But Laidlaw stepped up in the final minute of the game to slot the match-winning penalty from a scrum securing them their first win in Australia since 1982. Unfortunately, Joe Ansbro and Ally Strokosch the victory has been remembered for other reasons.

The chaotic scenes as the kick went over with the Scots erupting in the middle of the park saw Laidlaw being engulfed with the players diving onto one another.

Ansbro and Strokosch joined the group with impeccable timing, flying in head first, splitting each other open in the process.
