NRC Heads to Fiji for Finale

The National Rugby Championship Final will be fought out between Fijian Drua and Queensland Country in a historic showdown in Lautoka.

For the first time in the competition’s history, the Final will be played outside Australia after the Drua’s impressive run to the Minor Premiership and Semi Final win over the Canberra Vikings ensuring the newcomers earned the right to host the clash.

The flying Fijians have built a season on electrifying, exciting Rugby that has captured the imagination of fans around Australia and in Fiji.

A crowd of over 5000 people is expected to attend Churchill Park in Lautoka to cheer on their local heroes.

The defending Premiers, Queensland Country have built a strong season, and have an arsenal of rising and experienced talent across their squad.

A mix of current and former Junior Wallabies players such as Angus Blyth, Tate McDermott, Harry Hockings, Tom Kibble, Harry Nucifora, Jordan Petaia and Duncan Paia’aua have shown that Country is building an exciting team of talented, future stars of Queensland and Australian Rugby.

Rugby Australia General Manager High Performance, Ben Whitaker said: “The National Rugby Championship Final presents an opportunity for both teams to get the ultimate reward for all their hard work across the season.

“The Fijian Drua have been an exciting team and have changed a lot of how teams attack and defend since their inclusion in the competition last year.

“Queensland Country will be very keen to defend their title and will go into the game well prepared for what the Drua can throw at them.

"The NRC is a crucial part of our pathways in continuing to progress outstanding talent - players, coaches and referees - after the conclusion of the Vodafone Super Rugby and club seasons.

“Thanks to our broadcast partner, FOX SPORTS, the competition continues to provide excellent Rugby content for fans.

“We wish both teams the best of luck for the Final this Saturday.”
