Melbourne Rebels Farewell Departing Players
- 2016
The Melbourne Rebels have this week bid farewell to a number of valued members from their 2021 playing squad following the completion of the Harvey Norman Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition last weekend.
Melbourne Rebels’ Captain, Dane Haylett-Petty, has finished his time with the Rebels following an injury-interrupted 2021 campaign where he was unable to take the field.
Haylett-Petty made 33 appearances over four years at the club and departs with the honour of having been named Captain for the last 3 years and leading the Rebels to their maiden finals appearance in 2020.
Meanwhile reigning Players’ Player recipient, Marika Koroibete, will also relocate from Melbourne having played 69 Super Rugby matches for the Rebels, scoring 115 points and 23 tries.
The twenty-eight-year-old is set to continue his professional playing career overseas in Japan. Joining Koroibete in the land of the rising sun will be Isi Naisarani, who departs his third Australian Super Rugby club having made 31 appearances for the Rebels after joining the club in 2019.
The Melbourne Rebels can also confirm the futures of halfback, Frank Lomani, and lock, Steven Cummins, with Lomani set to return back to his native home of Fiji, while Cummins has signed a multi-year deal with French side, Section Paloise in the Top 14.
Tom Pincus has also finished playing for the Melbourne Rebels, and will be moving into his post Rugby career, working in Melbourne alongside a Melbourne Rebels partner.
Looking to 2022, the Melbourne Rebels will retain the majority of their 2021 playing squad and current Wallabies’ representatives, with 27 players contracted for the 2022 Super Rugby AU season.
