Highlights: Blues v Hurricanes

The Blues got their Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign off to the perfect start with a 30-20 home win over the Hurricanes to close out round 1. The Hurricanes drew first blood with an early penalty, with the sides alternating two tries apiece thereafter in a sea-saw first half as the Blues took a slender 14-13 lead into the halftime break. The Blues ran in their third try of the match ten minutes into the second half to extend their advantage out to 21-13. The Blues then took control of the match through the boot, with ill discipline costing the Hurricanes as the hosts slotted three penalties in quick succession to push the score out to 30-13 with under 15 minutes to play. The Hurricanes could only manage a late consolation score in response as the hosts closed out a comfortable victory.
