The Exeter Chiefs edged the Northampton Saints 34-31 in a thrilling finish to round 18 of the Premiership. The sides traded early penalties before a second put Saints up 6-3 approaching the midpoint of the first half. Exeter struck with a try shortly after to make it 10-6. Saints responded with a try around the half hour mark, but once again Exreter hit back with a try which saw them take a 17-13 lead into the break.
Saints came flying out of the gate in the second half and ran in two tries in just seven minutes with a penalty inbetween to race into a 28-17 lead.
Saints picked up a yellow card just after the hour mark and Exeter capitalized almost immediately with a score to get back into the match, trailing 28-24. The Chiefs made full use of their numerical advantage, as another try with around ten minutes remaining saw them hit the front 31-28. Just a couple of minutes later we were all square thanks to a Saints penalty to set up a tense finish.
Exeter would snatch victory with a successful shot at goal with a minute to play sealing it for the visitors.
