The Pumas scrum-half, Gonzalo García , is going through a key moment in his career: after four seasons at Zebre Parma , the Tucumán native will close his cycle in the United Rugby Championship and is already planning his next destination in European rugby, with the Top 14 as his main horizon.
The Italian franchise confirmed the departure of the Argentine player, who played 43 matches for Zebre and established himself as a reliable option at point guard. His consistency in a demanding competition put him on the radar of several French rugby clubs, where—according to reports in recent months—he has already made contact, including with Union Bordeaux Bègles.
García, who came up through the ranks at Natación y Gimnasia, began his European career after standing out in Italian rugby with Valorugby Emilia. He also had a stint in South American rugby, playing in the Superliga Americana de Rugby (now Super Rugby Americas), where he represented Cafeteros Pro.
His departure will not be the only one within the Parma-based squad: other Argentinians such as Guido Volpi , Martín Roger Farías and Enrique Pieretto will also leave the institution , in a renewal that will mark the end of a cycle for several national players at Zebre.
With international experience and a proven track record in one of the continent's most competitive leagues, Gonzalo García is emerging as an attractive prospect for the European market. A potential move to the Top 14 would represent a significant step forward in his career, especially as he also seeks to solidify his place within the Pumas squad, with his sights set on the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
