Chiefs edge Reds having made over 200 tackles

The fist Super Rugby game of the weekend was one purely based on rock-solid defence, as the Chiefs narrowly beat the Reds 19-13 in Waikato.

The Chiefs outscored the Reds three tries to one, but that is not the only stat they lead in the match. The New Zealand outfight made a total of 242 tackles in the match and managed to keep their tackles success rate at 88%.

With only 29% possession and 27% territory in the entire game, the Chiefs did absolutely brilliant to come away with all the points.

Here are the top performers:

Brad Weber

The No. 9 was a constant threat from the fringes of the ruck and scrums, he also gave quick ball and was solid on defense.

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto

The Reds flanker made a few big carries and also a couple of good few runs. His performance this evening often put the Reds on the front foot and got them close to the try line.

Pita-Gus Sowakula

The big No. 8 scored his first try in Super Rugby today and put in a certain match-winning performance.

Lachlan Boshier

The No.6 was a constant menace at the breakdown and was huge on defence! The flanker made 22 tackles in the game and also made two crucial turnovers on the try line.
