Injected into the game at half time with the Chiefs trailing the Blues 14-7, Aaron Cruden made an immediate impact set up a try for his winger Solomon Alaimalo.
The 50 test cap All Black was playing in his 99th game for the Chiefs and set up the try after Chiefs' no.8 Pita-Gus Sowakula carried from the base of the scrum and threw an awkward pass that was cleaned up by Brad Weber.
Weber managed to offload to Cruden who threw the dummy before sending Anton Liernert-Brown charging into the Blues' 22. Liernert-Brown drew in Beauden Barrett before teeing up Solomon Alaimalo to score in the corner.
