The Turbo's seem to have the better of the 2 scrums with more power coming through from the second and back rows than their counterparts.
After a knock on from both teams we are set for a Southland scrum on the halfway line
Almost a try for the Turbo's however we are brought back for a previous marginally forward pass, a let off for Southland
2 very evenly matched sides and a very entertaining game here to watch
20 mins possession
Southland 54%
Manawatu 46%
What a try for Manawatu! Jason emery with the initial break brings play 20 metres from the line, he offloads to Te Rure who spots a hole in the defence and attacks it before passing back to Emery who has just a few metres to run before diving for the line.
Manawatu's prop Chris Eaves throws a dummy pass and makes 30 metres before being taken down. Tackler not releasing gives a penalty to the Turbos and Te Rure's kick has the distance however lands just 1 metre to the right of the posts
Just as we thought all the pressure was coming from the Turbo's. Southland have a lineout 10 metres from the greens line and with a solid set piece they maul the lineout slowly and safely up to the line and its John Hardie who was last with hands on the ball and manages to bag 5 points for his team. McKenzie slots the conversion.
Makes no mistake with the 35 metre kick and banks the first points of the game
Scrum brought down by Southland and Jade Te Rure gets his first scoring chance of the game
