Fekitoa, a talented rugby player, is a product of Wesley College, which has also produced famous All Blacks Jonah Lomu and Frank Halai. In 2011, he burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old at the Nationals sevens, where he was voted player of the tournament by Gordon Teitjens.
In 2012, Fekitoa played every game in the Auckland ITM Cup campaign, demonstrating his strength as a physical defender and strong runner capable of creating space for himself and others. The All Blacks selectors took note in 2014, after his impressive debut season for the Highlanders, giving him eight Test caps and two tries.
Fekitoa quickly developed into a powerful midfielder for both the Highlanders and the All Blacks, showcasing his talent and 'x-factor'. He signed a contract extension with New Zealand Rugby in early 2015, committing to the Highlanders until 2017.
Despite initially missing the All Black squad for the Lions series in 2017, he was brought in after injuries and featured in the final test as well as the Highlanders win over the tourists. Fekitoa confirmed a move to Top 14 outfit Toulon for the 2017-18 season on a two-year deal, leaving the Highlanders with 65 Super Rugby caps and 20 tries.
After two seasons in France, the All Black World Cup winner joined Wasps in 2019. Fekitoa, who can play at 12 or 13, has scored two tries at the 2015 Rugby World Cup as part of the team that secured back-to-back titles for the first time.
In February 2022, Fekitoa traded Wasps for Irish Province, Munster, signing a two-year deal leaving the province at the end of the 2022/23 season.
He played 17 games for the Irish province and scored 2 tries. In his final game for the province, Fekitoa started in Munster's 19–14 win against the Stormers in the final of the 2022–23 United Rugby Championship on 27 May 2023
After playing for the All Blacks, Fekitoa was able to represent Tonga under new World Rugby regulations, he made the decision to represent his birth country ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Fekitoa joined Italian United Rugby Championship club Benetton on a three-year contract from the 2023–24 season.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Fekitoa has been named in the training squad for Tonga.
