Johnny Fa'auli started his professional career with Counties Manukau in 2015 where he made 10 appearances in his debut season. He would move to The Taranaki Bulls ahead of the 2016 Mitre Cup.
He played once again made 10 appearances for season and displayed real potential with bone crushing tackles and an overall attacking skill set.
Fa'auli signed for the Chiefs ahead of the 2017 Super Rugby season.
In April 2017, the young centre was named in the provincial Barbarians side to face the Lions in their tour opener in Whangarei on June 3.
In May 2017, Fa'auli was withdrawn from the NZ Barbarians side due to his Super Rugby commitments with the Chiefs, he has played 5 times scoring one try as the Chiefs face off against the British & Irish Lions.
Fa'auli took his cap tally to 17 by the end of the 2018 season before moving to Japan.
