James Scott represented England at age grade level, earning selection for the England Under 16s in 2015 before progressing to the England Under 18s in 2017. He was then selected for the England Under 20s in both 2018 and 2019, featuring in the Under 20 Six Nations Championship in both years. He was also part of England's squad for the 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
At club level, he began his senior career with Worcester Warriors, where he played from 2017 to 2022. During this period, he also spent time with Hartpury University RFC between 2018 and 2021, gaining valuable experience in the Championship as a second row forward.
In 2021, he had a spell with Glasgow Warriors, joining the Scottish club on loan and making four appearances during his time there. He returned to England before moving to Jersey Reds for the 2022 to 2023 season.
He then moved to the United States, joining the Chicago Hounds for the 2023 season. He quickly established himself as an important member of the Hounds' second row, starting regularly at lock and becoming a key part of their pack. He remained with Chicago through the 2025 season before making the move to Anthem Rugby Carolina for the 2026 Major League Rugby season.
He currently represents Anthem Rugby Carolina, continuing his career as an experienced No. 5 lock in Major League Rugby.
