Showing his potential from a young age Deon Helberg represented the Pumas and Bulls youth teams before he was selected in the Tuks 2010 Varsity Cup side.
He represented the University for 3 years while still turning out for the Blue Bulls and Lions U19, 21 and Vodacom Cup.
He made one appearance for the Lions Super Rugby side in 2013.
In 2015 he signed for Pumas.
