The Fiji-born and Suva Grammar-educated
Tanya Kalounivale debuted for Waikato
in 2017, not long after her school days
were over.
In the 2020 Farah Palmer Cup, she formed
a rock-solid front-row combination with
Toka Natua and Grace Houpapa-Barrett.
Kalounivale herself scored two tries in six
games, including one in the semi-final
against the Manawatū Cyclones, taking
her stats to three tries from 21 outings for
Waikato.
Kalounivale was a part of the inaugural
Chiefs Manawa team, and has since
become a prominent feature in the
Chiefs Manawa starting fifteen, lining up
alongside fellow Black Ferns teammates
Kate Henwood and Luka Connor in the
front row. She made her Black Ferns debut
in the 2022 Pacific Four Series against
the Wallaroos in Tauranga and later that
year was a part of the winning Black Ferns
Rugby World Cup squad.
