Sanele Nohamba is a dynamic and talented scrumhalf who has made waves in South African rugby. His journey in the sport began at Durban High School, where his exceptional performances caught the attention of the rugby community. Representing the Sharks at Craven Week, Nohamba showcased his skills and potential at a young age.
His talent didn't go unnoticed, and he had the privilege of representing South Africa at different levels. In 2016, he wore the South Africa Schools 'A' jersey, and the following year, he earned a spot in the South Africa Schools team. Nohamba's dedication and skill set led to his selection for the South Africa Under-20s squad for the 2019 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. At the tournament, he made significant contributions, scoring 33 points with two tries, seven conversions, and three penalties.
Nohamba's rise continued when he made his Currie Cup debut for the Sharks in July 2019, coming off the bench as a replacement scrumhalf in their opening match against Griquas. He impressed further and secured a place in the Sharks' Super Rugby squad for the 2020 season. Although the tournament was abandoned, Nohamba had the opportunity to showcase his abilities in five matches. He also made appearances in the Super Rugby Unlocked tournament.
In June 2021, Nohamba received a notable honor when he was named in South Africa's 46-man squad for the British and Irish Lions Tour. While he didn't make his Springboks debut during the tour, he did feature for the South African A side against the Bulls, gaining valuable experience at a high level.
In May 2022, Nohamba made a move from the Sharks to join the Lions. With 25 Currie Cup appearances and 18 appearances in the URC and Super Rugby competitions under his belt, Nohamba brings his talent and experience to the Lions. He made his debut for the Lions in a Currie Cup clash against the Cheetahs, continuing his journey as a formidable scrumhalf in South African rugby.
