Winners & Losers : Springbok squad to face Australia

With the Rugby Championship around the corner, the Springboks was first out ot the blocks naming their squad to travel to Australia.

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus named a strong 33-man squad led by double Rugby World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi.

We had a look at who the winners and losers was after the naming of the squad

Winners

Ruan Nortje(Big winner)


Nortje, who made his Springbok debut against Wales in 2022 and represented the SA ‘A’ side in November that year, is the only player in the squad that has not featured in any of the Springboks four test this year.

Morne van den Berg


With Faf de Klerk still injured, this is a great oppertunity for van den Berg to show Erasmus why he belongs in the Springbok squad.

Ben-Jason Dixon

The young and upcoming Western Province forward was HUGE against Portugal this past weekend and fully deserves a plane ticket to Australia.

Elrigh Louw

Louw in, Roos out. The Bulls forward will compete with Kwagga Smith for the number 8 jersey.

Jan-Hendrik Wessels

Wessels had an excellent debut last week for the Springboks, scoring a try along with school mate Andre-Hugo Venter

Losers

Evan Roos

After a solid outing last weekend, it is suprise that he is left out.

Trevor Nyakane

A big excusion from the Springbok squad.

Phepsi Buthalezi

With the strong group of loseforwards in the Springbok squad, Buthalezi misses out.
