Wales Player Ratings v Scotland
- 3577
Louis Rees-Zammit's excellent second try gave Wales a narrow 25-24 bonus-point victory over 14-man Scotland in the Six Nations.
Here is how we rated Wayne Pivac's men.
15. Leigh Halfpenny - 5
Was accurate from the tee but he was caught out by the brilliant kick by Ali Price early on. Took a heavy knock to the head and didn't return.
14. Louis Rees-Zammit - 9
The matchwinner and rightly named man of the match. Louis Rees-Zammit was outstanding.
Had a few lapses on defence but he made up for them as he finished his first try superbly and the second was sensational.
He put in a massive clearance in the latter stages of the match to pin Scotland backwards. Two tries and an assist.
13. Owen Watkin - 6
He came up with a key contribution with his tap tackle stopping the dangerous Duhan van der Merwe who looked to threaten in the last moments of the game.
However, he did struggle to contain Chris Harris on defence.
12. Nick Tompkins - 6
A great spin and offload set up the first Louis Rees-Zammitt try. Busy on both sides of the ball which did lead to a number of errors but overall he was solid.
11. Liam Williams - 8
Excellent hands to put Louis Rees-Zammit away for the youngester's first try. The favour was repaid as he went in for a try himself.
Solid as ever under the high ball.
10. Dan Biggar - 5.5
Kicked well out of hand in open play but his attempt at a banana kick into touch from a penalty turned out horribly.
Pulled in the 49th minute with Sheedy immediately making a difference.
9. Gareth Davies - 6
Solid outing without too much to criticise or praise.
1. Wyn Jones - 7
Scored a key try while enjoying an excellent battle up front with Zander Fagerson.
Struggled to contain WP Nel but played a massive 78 minutes.
2. Ken Owens - 7.5
Just the one lineout dart that Wales didn't claim back throughout the game. Owens had another big shift on both ends of the ball.
3. Tomas Francis - 6
Busy as ever around the pitch but Rory Sutherland looked to have his number in the scrum.
4. Adam Beard - 7.5
Huge on defence for 80 minutes. A real threat at the breakdown carried into the blue wall with vigour.
5. Alun Wyn Jones - 7
Solid and effective as ever. 14 tackles without missing. A head knock ended his game early.
6. Aaron Wainwright - 5
Flew around the pitch looking for work on defence and attack. His handling let him down as to did the four missed tackles. Replaced in the final quarter.
7. Justin Tipuric - 7.5
Hardly ever has a poor game. Didn't change against Scotland. Made 16 tackles without missing and was a pest at the breakdown. He handled the ball well too making 8 passes.
8. Taulupe Faletau - 7.5
Massive numbers on defence and attack making 12 carries and 19 tackles.
Got over the advantage line more often than not and is looking to be returning to his best form.
Replacements:
Elliot Dee - n/a
Not on long enough for a fair rating.
Rhodri Jones - n/a
Got the final three minutes of the game.
Leon Brown - 6
A strong scrummaging performance from the bench. Solid defensively too.
Will Rowlands - 6
Came on with 10 minutes to go. Made his tackles and cleared out rucks.
James Botham - 6
Managed to win a turnover and make all of his attempted tackles in an 18 minute shift.
Kieran Hardy - 6.5
Picked up the pace of the attack well. Kicked well out hand too.
Callum Sheedy - 8
A game changing shift off the bench. Created a number of chances while his kicking out of hand was accurate.
Willis Halaholo - 7
Didn't look out of place at test level. Nice hands in the build up to Williams' try. Defended well enough.
