Highlanders duo suffer injury
All Black winger Waisake Naholo has sustained a new fracture to the same leg that he injured before the World Cup last year. An x-ray yesterday confirmed the fracture that was sustained during the Highlanders match against the Blues this weekend.
Team doctor Greg Macleod said “while this is very unfortunate for Waisake, the positive news is that this injury is not as bad as his last fracture. He is already managing well and it’s expected his rehab will take 6 – 8 weeks”
Fumiaki Tanaka's recovery from a torn calf is expected to take 4 weeks. He injured his calf during the last training in Auckland and was replaced on the bench by Josh Renton for the Blues match.
Commenting on the player's injurys, head coach Jamie Joseph said: “to lose players for an extended period is always disappointing but you have to expect injuries to occur at some point, as a group we simply deal with it and move on, the focus for the players now will be to rehab well and work to make themselves available again."
Irish sign Tonks
London Irish have signed Scotland full-back Greig Tonks from Edinburgh with immediate effect.
Tonks made 77 appearances for the Scottish capital club and has earned six caps for his country including three during last year's RBS 6 Nations.
Tonks told edinburghrugby.org: "I loved my time at the club, and Edinburgh has become a home for me. I'm very sad to leave, but the opportunity came up for a change of scenery and I wanted to give it a shot."
