Tigers confirm captains for 2023/24 season ahead of historic double-header

Leicester Tigers have confirmed Julián Montoya and Natasha Jones as the club’s senior team captains for the 2023/2024 season.

An historic occasion awaits Mattioli Woods Welford Road this Sunday, with both Tigers senior teams taking to the field for the club’s first ever home Premiership double header.

Montoya made his return to Gallagher Premiership action against Gloucester last week, leading the team from hooker, as he did for Argentina in the Rugby World Cup.

Leicester Tigers Senior Men’s captain, Julián Montoya said: “I’m very honoured to lead this team, and a club that has the history and tradition of Leicester Tigers.

“I’ll give my all for the team and our supporters every day, and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a group full of leaders and experienced players that know what it takes to be successful at this club.”

Leicester Tigers Senior Men’s head coach, Dan McKellar said: “Julian’s a player that leads with his actions every day in our environment and on the field.

“He has the respect of the team, cares about his teammates and will be well-supported by (vice-captain) Hanro (Liebenberg) and our leadership group.”

Jones, a Leicester local and teacher working in Tigers community, has been an integral part of Tigers Senior Women’s team since it’s inception, being named Tiger #1 as the team’s inaugural captain.

Leicester Tigers Senior Women’s captain, Natasha Jones said: “It’s an honour. Last season was filled with incredible highs, and I was so proud to lead out a wonderful team.

“This year, we want to keep building every day and establish Leicester Tigers at the top level of the women’s game, where they belong.”

Leicester Tigers Head of Women’s Rugby, Vick Maqueen said: “Tash’s credentials in the game, her commitment to the club from day one and the way she leads across all aspects of the game make her a clear choice.

“She has set the standard in the women’s programme since it began and she will continue to be a vital part of Leicester Tigers for a long time”
