Stormers Thrash Bristol Bears 49–12 in Champions Cup Opener

The Stormers made a statement in their Champions Cup opener, running in seven tries to secure a convincing 49–12 victory over Bristol Bears at DHL Stadium on Saturday. Wingers Leolin Zas and centre Jonny Roche both scored twice as the Cape side delivered an impressive attacking performance.
The Stormers started brightly, with Seabelo Senatla opening the scoring after breaking through the Bristol defence. Senatla then turned provider, offloading for Zas to cross for the hosts' second try. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu converted both efforts to give the Stormers a 14–0 lead.
Bristol responded through flanker Joe Owen, but the hosts regained control before half-time when Roche finished an attacking move created by the combination of Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse. The Stormers went into the break with a commanding 21–7 advantage.
The home side suffered a setback when hooker JJ Kotzé received a red card, leaving the Stormers a player short for a 20-minute period. Leolin Zas was also shown a yellow card early in the second half after a high tackle, temporarily increasing the pressure on the hosts.
Bristol took advantage of the numerical situation to score their second try, but the Stormers responded immediately. Roche collected a loose ball and raced over for his second try of the afternoon, with Feinberg-Mngomezulu converting from out wide to extend the lead to 28–12.
Once back to full strength, the Stormers took complete control. Replacement Warrick Gelant crossed for another try before fellow substitute André-Hugo Venter added his name to the scoresheet. Zas then completed his brace in the closing stages to cap a dominant performance. Feinberg-Mngomezulu converted all seven tries to finish with a perfect record from the tee.
The victory gives the Stormers an ideal start to their European campaign, with their attacking variety and clinical finishing proving too much for Bristol. Despite spending periods with 14 players, the Cape side maintained their composure and continued to find gaps in the visitors' defence.
For Bristol, the defeat will be a disappointing start to the competition. The English side showed some attacking promise but struggled to contain the Stormers' pace and handling, particularly in the second half.
Final score: Stormers 49–12 Bristol Bears.
