Stormers winger continues to be likened to Cheslin Kolbe after a 2 try man of the match performance

The Stormers fell to a narrow 31-27 loss against the Bulls on Friday in the Rainbow Cup despite the efforts of winger Edwill van der Merwe.

Ruan Nortje scored the match-winner for the Bulls in the final seconds of the game with Morne Steyn converting to make it a four-point victory. The clash on Friday also saw Marcell Coetzee make his debut for the Bulls scoring off the back of a driving maul in the 13th minute of the game. Coetzee joined Jake White's charges from Ulster.

While the Bulls snuck to victory, dominating possession, it was a Stormers' outside back that claimed the praise. Edwill van der Merwe has been a standout for the Stormers in the Rainbow Cup and Friday was no different for the speedster.

He brilliantly finished off his two chances to score. He made 60 running metres and beat two defenders as he was named man of the match.

The former u20s star's breakout season has seen him being compared to former Stormer and now Toulouse and Springbok back Cheslin Kolbe.

His electric speed and excellent footwork give that comparison merit.
