Six Nations Countdown: The Championship's Top 5 Points Scorers

The Six Nations has been fortunate enough to host some of the game’s most prolific points scorers.

With 5 days left until the 2023 tournament gets underway, we take a look at the top 5 names in the points column.

As to be expected, all 5 players were/are established flyhalves with a knack for the kicking side of the game.

1. Ronan O’Gara (557 Six Nations points)

The Irish legend enjoyed a long international career spanning some thirteen years which yielded 128 caps for Ireland and the British & Irish Lions.

2. Jonny Wilkinson (546 Six Nations points)

Not surprising to find Wilkinson in this list. His work ethic with regard to his kicking was unrivalled in his time and his accuracy and precision kept England’s scoreboard ticking for many years. He also manufactured several fantastic tries.

3. Johnny Sexton (531 Six Nations points)

One of the game’s greats, he still finds himself bossing proceedings on the pitch at the age of 37. As he enters the last of his Six Nations days, it is probable that Sexton will overtake Wilkinson in second spot by the time the competition reaches conclusion.

4. Owen Farrell (500 Six Nations points)

At just 31 years of age and with plenty of good rugby left in him, the current England captain will, most likely, ascend to one of the top two spots before he finally hangs up his boots. Over the years, Farrell has turned himself into a world-class goal kicker and is also not shy to get his hands dirty on attack.

5. Stephen Jones (467 Six Nations points)

The Welshman earned the reputation as a very skilful and dependable striker of the ball before retiring from the game in 2013. He notched up a whopping 104 caps for Wales as well as 6 for the British & Irish Lions. After retiring from playing, Jones turned his focus to coaching and currently serves on the Welsh backroom staff.
