Scotland trio ruled out of Fiji Nations Championship clash

Scotland have been dealt a triple injury blow ahead of the Nations Championship match against Fiji.

Glasgow Warriors trio, Kyle Steyn, Rory Darge and Alex Samuel have been ruled out of this weekend's match against Fiji at Murrayfield.

Samuel misses the match due to a knee problem with Steyn suffering from a foot knock.

Darge is unavailable for the match because of a concussion. He had failed an HIA at the interval during Scotland's defeat to South Africa last weekend.

Samuel was initially named on the bench for the Springboks clash, but pulled out on the morning of the game and was replaced by club-mate Max Williamson.

And Gregor Townsend confirmed post-match that Samuel would require surgery on his knee injury and is expected to be out for several weeks.

Townsend, who also lost tighthead prop Elliot Millar Mills from the original 36-man squad, has not called anyone into the group ahead of Saturday's meeting with the Flying Fijians.

Meanwhile, Matt Fargerson has stated Scotland are building “something special” ahead of the match against Fiji.

He said: “We spent a lot of time as a group together and the hurt we had from Argentina in the autumn, we felt we'd righted those wrongs in the Six Nations and we'd become a group that could recognise momentum swings and we were trying to play on that in the middle third as well.

“If we'd gone over the line on a couple of those chances it might be a different scoreline.

“I think the lessons learned from Argentina I feel like we have moved on as a group. We're building something pretty special here.

“Over the last five or six years we've locked in what our identity is and who we are. I think everybody's on the same page as in that."
