Ireland’s Robert Baloucoune has been named the 2026 BKT Rising Player following an exceptional debut campaign in the Guinness Men’s Six Nations.
The Ulster winger, who has become a focal point of the Irish backline this season, was presented with the trophy at the Aviva Stadium following the conclusion of Ireland’s Super Saturday clash against Scotland - a Triple Crown-winning victory that saw Baloucoune get on the scoresheet.
Baloucoune follows in the footsteps of fellow countryman Sam Prendergast, who won the award in 2025, its inaugural year.
A breakout campaign
While Baloucoune has long been a standout performer for Ulster, 2026 proved to be the year he translated that provincial dominance to the international stage.
Known for his clinical finishing and exceptional pace, the 28-year-old was forced to wait for his moment in the spotlight. However, since making his mark in the opening rounds, he has been a revelation for Andy Farrell’s side. His ability to find work off the ball and his reliability under the high pressure of Test match rugby made him the standout candidate for the award.
The BKT Rising Player award recognises the most impactful talent featuring in their first ever Championship.
The stats behind the rise
Baloucoune’s impact has been felt across every statistical category. Throughout the 2026 Championship, he has consistently ranked among the top wingers for metres carried and clean breaks. His defensive grit was also on full display during Ireland's physical encounter with Wales, where his work rate was vital in securing a narrow victory.
