Repeat of 2019 final as Leinster host Saracens in quarter-final
- 1924
Leinster Rugby and Saracens will do battle once again in a rematch of the 2019 Heineken Champions Cup final when they meet in this season’s quarter-finals.
No.1 seed Leinster racked up 28 points in Pool 1 to secure the top placing and will meet Saracens at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin after the defending champions narrowly defeated Racing 92 27-24 on Sunday afternoon to finish as one of the best three runners-up.
That defeat for Pool 4 winners Racing 92 means they will be on the road in the last eight as the No.5 seed facing fellow TOP 14 side and Pool 3 winners ASM Clermont Auvergne at the Stade Marcel-Michelin.
Pool 1 runners-up Northampton Saints will travel to face Pool 2 winners Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, with the English side finishing in the No.2 seed position after a dramatic conclusion in Toulouse.
The French side fell five points short of securing the No.2 seed in a 35-14 win over Gloucester Rugby on Sunday afternoon, with the Pool 5 winners instead taking the No.3 seed. They will take on Ulster Rugby at Stade Ernest-Wallon.
The quarter-final matches to be played on 3/4/5 April are as follows:
QF 1: Leinster Rugby v Saracens, Aviva Stadium
QF 2: ASM Clermont Auvergne v Racing 92, Stade Marcel-Michelin
QF 3: Toulouse v Ulster Rugby, Stade Ernest-Wallon
QF 4: Exeter Chiefs v Northampton Saints, Sandy Park
NB The exact dates, venues, broadcasters and kick-off times for the matches will be announced towards the end of next week.
