The Melbourne Rebels and Rugby Australia have confirmed Wallabies’ star Taniela Tupou has officially joined the Rebels on a multi-year deal.
Tupou will arrive in Melbourne at the completion of the 2023 Harvey Norman Super Rugby Pacific season and will remain a Rebel until at least the end of 2025.
Tupou’s signature bolsters an already imposing Rebels front-row rich in size, strength and international experience.
However, the twenty-six-year-old's value will extend far beyond just AAMI Park, with Tupou to be a valuable addition to the Rebels’ Pasifika efforts designed to promote and celebrate Pasifika culture and tradition, while enriching the lives of its community through the game of rugby.
A schoolboy sensation, the devastating prop made his Wallabies debut in 2017 in Edinburgh against Scotland and has gone on to represent Australia on 47 occasions. Wallaby number 917, Tupou is currently recovering from an Achilles injury he picked up late last season and will be pushing for selection in his second Rugby World Cup squad in France this year.
Wallabies and 2024 Melbourne Rebels signing Taniela Tupou said: “I’d like to thank Rugby Australia and the Melbourne Rebels for the opportunity to continue my career here in Australia for the next two years.”
