Racing continue their dominance over Leicester
- 1598
Racing came into today's game having won 5 of the last 6 games against Leicester. For the opening part of the game, it looked as though Leicester would bring an end to this dominance as they were the first to score. However, a greater part of the game was all Racing.
Carries by Bernard Le Roux and a strong defensive effort by Antonie Claasens held out Leicester in the second half. This was the best second-half performance by Racing as they managed to hold out their opposition in this period. This guaranteed them a 34-11 victory as they remain unbeaten in the tournament thus far. Juan Imhoff was a cog in Racing's attack as he scored two tries to assist in his side's victory.
Key performances in this afternoons performance are as follows:
Antonie Claassen - Racing 92
An absolute mind-blowing defensive effort from the towering 8th man. While his side was always on attack his 10 tackles proved vital to hold out Leicester in the second half to keep them scoreless. The South African French international was also quite useful in the attacking phases with seven carries and a crucial offload. In the end, he was a deserving candidate for the man of the match award.
George Worth - Leicester Tigers
This was the only convincing performer for Leicester this afternoon. While his breakthrough year came in the 2016/17 season the 22-year-old has done well to continue performing consistently for his club. 49 metres made today which included 12 carries is just proof of how hungry he was. He showed great skill to pick up the ball from close range and dot over in the 32nd minute to score his side only try.
Finn Russell - Racing 92
Brought in to close the void left by the legendary Dan Carter, Russell has punched above his weight this season and has done well for Racing no to miss the All Black. Today was just another of those key performances by Wallace High School Alumni. He commanded this performance like a seasoned campaigner. 44 metres made, two offloads and 16 passes proved just how important he was for his side today.
Bernard Le Roux - Racing 92
Another African born who put his hand up at Welford Road this afternoon. Many would have thought that he actually deserved the man of the match award instead of his loose forward partner. He topped the metres gained statistics with 62 metres made in the game carrying 8 times averaging just under 8 metres per carry. He made his presence felt on defence and did not give the opposition any chance to gain momentum.
