Premiership Highlights: Newcastle Falcons Vs Exeter Chiefs
- 1029
The Exeter Chiefs ground out a 15-9 away win over the Newcastle Falcons in a far from glamorous round 8 Premiership encounter. Ten minutes after the Falcons opened the scoring with a Joel Hodgson penalty, Sam Simmonds powered his way over off the back of a scrum 5m out to see Exeter into a 7-3 lead. Hodgson slotted his second penalty midway through the first half to make it a one point ball game at 6-7. Joe Simmonds restored the four point gap with a penalty on the half hour mark as Exeter held a 10-6 advantage at the break. Eleven minutes into the second half, Alex Cuthbert showed his class as he received a cut out pass in space on the right and cracked on the pace to round the final defender and race into the corner to see the Chiefs up 15-6. Another Hodgson penalty around the hour mark saw the Falcons within touching distance heading into the final quarter, but Exeter managed to control the final 20 minutes to seal the victory which moves the defending champions up to second spot in the standings.
