Newcastle secure their first Prem Rugby victory in over a year

The players, coaches, management and supporters will be smiling for a long time after Newcastle beat Gloucester 25-19 in what will be a famous victory.

The home side led 12-5 at half time through tries from George McGuigan and Tom Christie. Just after half time, Simon Benitez Cruz scored to make it 22-5. Tries from Mike Austin and Ciaran Knight brought Gloucester back into the match but it was too late as Newcastle secured their first Prem win in over a year.

In the 15th minute, Jamie Hodgson and Arthur Clark both received yellow cards for a bit of hand bags.

In the 47th minute, Ollie Thorley received a 20min red card for a head on head tackle.

Standout players

Simon Benitez Cruz, Tom Christie, Christian Wade and Alex Hearle stood out for Newcastle. On the Gloucester side, Lewis Ludlow and Seb Atkinson stood out.

What is next for the teams?

Newcastle welcomes Perpignan in the Challenge Cup on the 10th of January and Gloucester travels to Edinburgh in round three of the Champions Cup on the 9th of January
