Leicester Tigers will hand Freddie Burns his Aviva Premiership debut for the club against Newcastle on Saturday.

The 24-year-old will run out at Welford Road to lead the side from fly-half after getting the nod over Owen Williams.

The Welshman is available after seeing out a ban for contact with the eyes of Northampton centre Luther Burrell at the end of last season.

That ruled him out of Leicester's pre-season programme, however, and while director of rugby Richard Cockerill said Williams was looking "sharp" and "in good nick", he thought Burns should be given the starting shirt af…
