Leicester Tigers hooker Tom Youngs has had surgery on a shoulder injury and will be out for three months.
There was further bad news for the club as winger Niall Morris and lock Geoff Parling were also ruled out with injury.
Morris has torn ankle ligaments and will miss between four and six weeks of action, according to director of rugby Richard Cockerill.
Parling will remain out of the game until he has had a proper medical assessment on a number of head injuries picked up during the last six months.
