The television match official who had been scheduled to officiate at Ireland’s Six Nations match against England in Dublin on Sunday is to miss the match after being stabbed in South Africa.
Shaun Veldsman, who is on the South African Rugby Union’s TMO panel, is recovering in hospital after being assaulted following Saturday’s Vodacom Super Rugby match between the Stormers and the Blues at Newlands in Cape Town.
Veldsman was stabbed in the lung while he was attacked while travelling in his car.
