Hurricanes v Chiefs - Top Performers

We take a look at the Top Performers following an entertaining Super Rugby playoff match between the Hurricanes and Chiefs.

Julian Savea

A sublime performance by the Bus as he looks to end his Hurricanes career on a high.

He opened the scoring with a brilliant interception in the opening minute of the game and almost repeated the feat minutes latter.

He was dangerous for throughout the game making 140 running metres beating 2 defenders and making 3 clean breaks.

Damian McKenzie

McKenzie has the heart of a warrior and showed that once again against the Hurricanes as he battled to get the Chiefs into the Super Rugby semi-finals.

He was lively throughout making 97 running metres beating 11 defenders, scoring a try and scored 9 points from the tee.

McKenzie will rue the pass he threw that Savea pounced on in the opening minute of the game but had a strong game onwards.

Gareth Evans

Evans put in a fine performance for the Hurricanes on the side of the scrum despite playing most of his rugby in the no.8 jersey in his first season with the Wellington-based side.

He was exceptional at the breakdown winning 3 clean turnovers and won countless penalties for his side.

He also weighed in with 13 tackles and 8 carries.

Lachlan Boshier

Boshier has a never say die approach to his game with the bruising flanker putting in another stand out performance for the Chiefs.

He was lively throughout making 11 tackles and 9 carries. He also chased a Charlie Ngatai kick well which led to Anton Lienert-Brown's try.

He did some superb work at the breakdown and came up with a lineout steal.

TJ Perenara

Peranara stood up when it counted for the Hurricanes scoring a crucial try for his side before half time before doubling up in the 60th minute to put his side back in the lead.

His passing and kicking game was on point with an early charge down the only blemish in his performance.

Defensively he made 8 tackles and on attack he made 20 running metres beating 3 defenders.
