European Challenge Cup Preview: Pool 3
- 2831
Newcastle Falcons continued their dominance in pool 2 as they defeated Stade Francais who now look set to miss out on a place in the knockout stages. As for the Dragons their win against Bucaresti keeps them in the race for a place in the knockout stages and are just three points behind The Falcons.
Newcastle will look to all but seal their place in the quarter-finals when they take on Stade Francais in Paris on Thursday. The Falcons will be looking for their 4th win in the competition after defeating Stade Francais 30-23 last Friday with Noah Cato getting the all important 4th try. The French side now face an almost impossible task of making it through to the knockout stages. They will most likely need to pick up maximum points from their remaining three games to have any chance, starting with the Falcons on Thursday.
In the other game The Dragons picked up maximum points as they defeated Bucuresti 37-10 as they continued their fine start in pool 3. They will now look to pick up another five points when the Romanian side travel to Rodney Parade on Friday. As for Bucuresti they only have one point to show from their opening three games and will be hoping to cause a shock in Newport as they look to win their first game in Europe since October of last year when they defeated Italian side Calvisiano.
