Brumbies beat Reds in Super Rugby AU final

The Brumbies beat the Queensland Reds 28-23 at GIO Stadium to become Australian champions and win the first Super Rugby AU title.

The Super Rugby AU title it is the first Super Rugby title for the Canberra outfit in 16 years. 

The Brumbies topped the Super Rugby AU table for the majority of the season and were understandably favourites heading into the game, particularly off the back of a bye week. 

The Brumbies scored two first half tries to led at the break 15-13 with Folau Faingaa dotting down in the 17th minute after a rolling maul with Andy Muirhead darting over after an offload from Noah Lolesio. Harry Wilson hit back for the Reds in the 31st minute with James O'Connor's conversion and penalty before the break making it a two point game.

The Brumbies started the second half brighter with Tom Banks weaving his way over the line just five minutes after the break with Lolesio adding the extras and a penalty to extend their lead to 25-13.


Filipo Daugunu was sent to the sin bin 50 minutes into the game for a dangerous tackle with Lolesio extending the lead to 15 points after 54 minutes.

A penalty from James O'Connor and a try from Angus Blyth narrowed the lead to just five points but the Brumbies managed to shut the Reds out and claim the victory.
